Not Highly Likely

Have you ever had a day like this? You got up this morning to find you had run out of coffee. Then when you go to take a shower, you discover you have run out of shampoo and have to use soap. (You also find yourself wishing that just once, when you get out of the shower, there were little globs of fat around the drain instead of hair.) When you finally make it to the car, you find it toilet papered. Extremely agitated you get in and drive down the road, paper flapping in the wind, only to be pulled over by a cop who didn't like your trails of paper down the highway.

Arriving 15 minutes late to work, you mumble an excuse to your boss and flop down in your chair to find the office jokester's favorite whoopee cushion. Depositing the ugly object in the trash, you spy the coffee maker and your mood sharply improves. After crossing the distance to the machine your mood hits bottom once again when you establish that someone has replaced all the coffee with some Irish Mocha Mint, which you just happen to be allergic to.

'Don't let it get to you', you mumble to yourself as you go back to your desk to tackle the stack of papers that has mysteriously appeared in the last 5 minutes. Things settle down and by lunch you've forgotten about your horrible morning. Then at the end of the day you jump in your car and head home. Life couldn't be better. The weather is warm, your window is down and the radio is turned up nice and loud. You even remember to stop and pick up some shampoo and coffee on the way. Arriving home, you eat dinner and enjoy a few minutes of T.V. and are feeling pretty good about yourself.

What on earth made the difference? I'd say it was probably perspective. How you look at things makes all the difference in the world. So save yourself a few ulcers, relax and laugh at life's practical jokes. Life is too short to let the little things get you down...O.K. it sounds a little sappy. But the truth is, that I'd rather go through life whistling and looking stupid, than spending most of my time in a doctor's office wondering why my body is so stressed out. Children have such a strong advantage over adults. They block out things that aren't interesting and fun. They focus on things that stimulate them and bring joy. So take a hint already, and smile...it sure beats the alternative.
