Home Improvement

I love to laugh, but not at stupid stuff. I prefer the laughter brought on by real life situations. It’s probably why I’m still fascinated with “M.A.S.H.” and shows like “Home Improvement”. It’s comedy with just enough realism to make you appreciate the good moments life offers.

I’m convinced it’s also why I bought a house. I was determined to carve out a home before I hit 30 – so when I was 29 1/2 I rushed to meet the goal I had set for myself 10 years earlier. Which created my own comedy of errors. I still laugh at myself and some of the weird things I do as a homeowner.

I’ll mow the front yard and leave the back yard alone because I’m in a hurry, and then a month later do a double take at the wheat field I’ve grown. Or buy a flag pole and forget to take down the spring flag till say, oh, Christmas. I’ll make spectacular plans to remodel, and then cry when something the former owner did collapses, draining yet again my limited savings. But for all its (and my) faults I’m still ecstatic about my house. How do you think I got so good at being a sturdy female? – I mean who do you think replaced the sewer line on a $150 budget?
